BJP social media team member questioned for ‘objectionable’ tweets

He had criticized Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s wife Rashmi.

A member of the social media team of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Maharashtra Unit was questioned by the Mumbai Police Cybercrime Unit for more than eight hours on Thursday in connection with his “objectionable” tweets.

Jiten Gajaria had made comments against Deputy Chief State Minister Ajit Pawar and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s wife Rashmi, after which a complaint was filed against him demanding his arrest. Later that evening, the tweets were deleted.

“We wanted to know details about him and that’s why he was called,” said a Mumbai police official. Vivekananda Gupta, lawyer for Mr Gajaria and head of the BJP, said there was nothing wrong with the tweet. “But he was called by the police to record his statement. It’s harassment, ”he said.

“A BJP official once again, through his tweets, exposed their misogynist, sexist and anti-women mentality. They must learn to draw a line between political opponents and their families. Shame on them, their only job here seems to be to troll women, ”tweeted Shiv Sena MP Rajya Sabha, Priyanka Chaturvedi.
