Kenya-Based CATS Uses Clear-Com DX210 System To Live Stream Africa’s Great Migration

CATS, based in Kenya, serves as a distributor, integrator, technical support team and rental partner for local dissemination needs. The company’s Clear-Com DX210 wireless digital intercom has been a staple in their entire line of productions for the past nine years, from musical performances to TV shows, talk shows, baking contests. , electronic sports and, more recently, live broadcasts.

This August, Ayaz Rajput, founder of CATS Limited, was enlisted by the famous wildlife photographer, Jeffrey Wu, to help with a first live production of The Great Migration in Africa. Despite the novelty of this application, CATS ‘existing DX210 system was the perfect stand-alone solution.

Award-winning wildlife photographer Jeffrey Wu was commissioned by social media video sharing platforms TikTok and Douyin to curate the content for the live broadcast, bringing together a global community of viewers in this spectacular wildlife exhibit. The great migration occurs with a change of seasons, prompting millions of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and more to migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the more fertile grasslands of the Maasai Mara in Kenya.

Longtime Ayaz local production partner Irfan Kassam and Jeffrey Wu teamed up to provide technical expertise for the five-day event, where app users could log in from August 25-29 to watch the action unfold.

The project required seamless communications between two touring vehicles, each equipped with three cameras, vision mixer, audio mixer, and streaming equipment, powered by on-board inverters and solar generators during the many hours of operation in the field. The DX210 main station was in one vehicle, with the antennas pointed outward from the vehicle and a BP210 2-channel 2.4 GHz wireless belt deployed in the second vehicle. With Ayaz in one vehicle and Ifran in the other, this setup provided the channel to coordinate vehicle movements, technical troubleshooting, and other communication between vehicles.

In the open plains, the production team was able to easily achieve 100 to 150 meters of wireless intercom range, allowing enough distance between the vehicles for the two hosts narrating the content – one speaking Mandarin and the other speaking English – do not interfere. each other, while still allowing Ayaz and Irfan to communicate via communications.

TikTok and Douyin also partnered with the Kenya Tourism Board, the International Fund for Animal Welfare and Conservation International on this event to promote the importance of biodiversity and inspire the protection of wildlife in the world.

“I am honored to be a part of such a noble cause,” says Ayaz, “It’s crazy to think that such a small team, with the help of just one DX210 system, can get this message across on a platform. – global shape. After nine years of service in the industry here in Nairobi, customers and crew have become accustomed to our Clear-Com system which is synonymous with the high quality of service CATS Limited is known to provide.
