Traver’s first community library opens

TRAVER, Calif. (KFSN) – A group of students from Traver Middle School are starting a new chapter in their community.

Traver’s first community library opened to the public on Saturday.

“Coming in here, I can say that I helped put it all together,” said college student Alize Gutierrez.
Gutierrez says she still can’t believe it’s been 2 years since they started working on their own library.

“It took a lot of effort, hard work, sweat and tears,” Gutierrez added.

A group of college students and community volunteers worked hard to make it happen

“We started doing things slowly but steadily over the summer,” said teacher Elizabeth Rodriguez. “We started doing things here and there, but it was just big question marks all the time.”

They were hoping to open the library in June 2020, but due to the pandemic, they had to put those plans aside.

“The world closed and everything stopped,” Rodriguez added.
Once the green light was obtained, they were operational again.

“We got to come in, put books on the shelves, we started decorating, we started making it all come true,” Rodriguez said.

Now they want the whole community to take advantage of this opportunity.

“They can come in, check books, connect to the Internet and do whatever they need to do,” said Kingsburg Community Assistance Program Executive Director Aida Rushing. “The things they might not be able to do if they don’t have that access to the house.”

The library is located at 3957 Kitchner Dr. 93672.

Their summer hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Their fall hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
